In our brand new Art Program, children will learn how the vibrant and visual styles of Pop Art are based on simple, bold images of everyday items and Graffiti Art is used to communicate publicly with simple written words or elaborate paintings on walls or other surfaces. Learners will explore the various types of Pop and Graffiti Art such as photography, painting, comics strips, posters, murals, tags and much more. During each lesson, students will examine and discuss famous artists amongst peers, view examples of artwork, take virtual gallery tours, and participate in fun interactive games and quizzes along with exciting activities inside their GSA Art Workbooks. To finish out each lesson, learners will utilize self expression skills creating four custom masterpieces with their art kit!

Volume 1: Pop Art


LESSON 1- Andy Warhol
Students will explore the various types of Pop Art such as photography, painting, comics strips and much more. Students will examine and discuss famous Pop Art artist Andy Warhol and view examples of his artwork and refer to fun videos to add additional knowledge. To finish out the lesson, students will participate in engaging learning activities in the GSA Pop Art Workbook and apply their self expression skills getting creative making an acrylic custom Pop Art masterpiece with inspiration from Andy Warhol!


LESSON 2: Yayoi Kusama
In lesson 2 students will look at another aspect of the vibrant Pop Art style. Students will examine and discuss famous Pop Art artist Yayoi Kusama and view examples of her artwork, take a virtual tour, look at fun videos and participate in fun learning activities inside the GSA Pop Art Workbook. To finish out the lesson, students will apply creative thinking skills to paint a watercolor Yayoi Kusama inspired Pop Art masterpiece!


LESSON 3: Roy Lichtenstein
Students will examine and discuss famous Pop Art artist Roy Lichtenstein in lesson 3, view examples of his artwork, play a fun game creating a virtual comic, view exciting images to compare and contrast and participate in fun learning activities inside the GSA Pop Art Workbook! At the end of the lesson students will get creative and produce a custom colored pencil Pop Art Comic like Roy Lichtenstein!

LESSON 4: Takashi Murakami
In lesson 4 we will focus on the wonderful Pop Art style of artist Takashi Murakami and view examples of his highly popular flower artwork and participate in fun learning activities inside the GSA Pop Art Workbook! Towards the end of the lesson, students will apply their inspiration from Takashi Murakami and create a custom oil pastel flower Pop Art! Learners will finish out the course with a fun quiz reviewing what we have learned about art, pop artists, new skills acquired, and the importance of art in our lives.




Volume 2: Graffiti


LESSON 1: John Cornbread Anderson
Students will explore the various types of Graffiti Art, or Street Art, such as tags, stencils, posters and much more. Students will examine and discuss famous graffiti artist John Cornbread Anderson, view examples of his artwork, play exciting interactive graffiti games, and participate in fun learning activities in the GSA Art Workbook. Applying their self expression skills, students get to show their creative side making their names in graffiti text like artist Cornbread using oil pastels.


LESSON 2: Keith Haring
In lesson 2 students will look at another aspect of Street Art style. Students will examine and discuss famous graffiti artist Keith Haring and view examples of his vibrant artwork, take a virtual gallery tour, and participate in fun learning activities inside the GSA Art Workbook. To finish out the lesson, students will utilize creative thinking skills to paint an acrylic Keith Haring inspired masterpiece!


LESSON 3: Banksy
Students will examine and discuss the mysterious unknown Graffiti artist Banksy in lesson 3. Students view popular Banksy artwork, play a fun game drawing what Banksy could look like, view exciting graffiti videos, and participate in learning activities inside the GSA Pop Art Workbook! At the end of the lesson students will get creative and produce a custom watercolor graffiti artwork like Banksy!


LESSON 4: Lady Pink
In lesson 4 we will focus on the eye-catching street style of graffiti artist Lady Pink. Students will view examples of her artwork, refer to similar graffiti styles, take a graffiti quiz, and participate in fun perspective activities inside the GSA Pop Art Workbook. Towards the end of the lesson, students will apply their inspiration from Lady Pink to create a vibrant watercolor pencil graffiti art flower! Learners will finish out the graffiti course reviewing art perspective, graffiti artists, new skills acquired, and the importance of art in our lives.



In this program, you will be focusing on how to improve these core skills:

Speaking Skills
Learn new vocabulary, answer questions and engage in classroom discussion with peers; For example: “I am using the smaller round brush.” “My favorite artist is Monet, who is your favorite artist?”

Creativity and Self Expression
Students will utilize their creative mindset to apply self expression in each lesson by creating art that represents a thought or memory and is based on exploration.

Problem Solving
In each lesson students will apply hands-on practice of skills in reasoning and understanding. How do I make this? How can I draw this? What colors can I make when I mix two different ones together?

Perspective
Consider a situation from a different point of view and put yourself in the other person's position to imagine what you would feel, think, or do. Students will learn about and apply perspective when looking at famous art works, artists' lives, or examining and discussing their peer's art work.

With this creative art set the possibilities of self expression are endless! In the first lesson of each art unit students will be introduced to all the pieces within the art kit, the types of mediums inside, color mixing, texture, shapes, and brushes. Once familiar with the materials, learners will start by using the sketching pencils to draw out their art ideas and progress forward learning about the differences between watercolor cakes, watercolor pencils, acrylic paint, and oil pastels before using each medium to make their artwork.
