Origami Science: Frogs

Combine the hands-on fun of origami with the wonder of learning about biology in this unique four-part group course. While making their own origami frog model, students will learn about the external and internal anatomy and physiology of a frog, focusing on vital systems such as the digestive, urogenital, cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Students will go onto discuss the life cycle of a frog and identify what anatomical changes occur during this cycle. Lastly, students will learn about the ecological importance of frogs and why conservation of frogs is invaluable.

Origami Science: Frogs Course Breakdown

What exactly do frogs do for our environment? How are frogs and toads different from each other, and why is it important to know the difference? Why is it important to learn about the frog's lifecycle? Why is it important for us to dissect frogs and why exactly do we use frogs for dissection?

In this course, you and your classmates will get to dive deep into the world of frogs, their role in our ecosystem, the importance of their lifecycle, and the importance of using frogs for learning about anatomy.

Here is a breakdown of each of the lessons in this course!

Lesson 1: Introduction to Frogs
Did you know there are over 5,000 species of frogs? Wow! Learn more exciting facts like this as we start to get to know a bit more about frogs. We will find out exactly what frogs eat and where they live, before we begin to assemble our own origami frog model.

Lesson 2: Frog Anatomy, Part 1
In our second class, we will learn about the important organs that make up the urinary and reproductive systems of a frog. Then we will open up our origami frog and add in these organs to build upon our model.

Lesson 3: Frog Anatomy, Part 2
Continuing on from last class, we will talk about the digestive system, the heart and the lungs. Did you know that we have the same organs in our body? We’ll explore how these work, before adding these organs into our origami frog to complete our model.

Lesson 4: The Frog Life Cycle
We’re not done yet! For our last class, we’ll dive into the life cycle of a frog. Frogs start out with gills like fish and end up with lungs like us - how amazing is that?!? We will also get to make a fun life cycle spinner that you can play with!
