Lesson Overview

Over the course of four lessons, students will explore varying aspects of global citizenship, social awareness and responsibility, and human health.

In the first lesson, students learn what global citizenship is and why it is important. Students will begin to gain an understanding of social awareness and how it relates to personal responsibility. Additionally, students will begin to learn how these skills relate to global health, all while employing real-world skills to STEAM-based projects.

What does it mean to be healthy? How do germs make us sick? In this lesson, students will dive into these questions and many more as they explore exactly how our bodies fight infection. With this knowledge, students will begin to understand the importance of human health on a global scale.

It is estimated that about half the world’s population does not have access to adequate healthcare. Woah! In this lesson, students will first learn what healthcare looks like around the world and will employ skills around social awareness. Then, students will explore a variety of problems in global health and will begin to think critically about potential solutions.

In the final lesson, students delve even further into solutions to global health issues by learning what it means to be responsible. Students will make connections between social awareness and personal responsibility, while exploring how they can impart change as effective global citizens.
