Online Winter Camp > STEAM Experiments: Winter Edition

In this exciting special edition of STEAM, students will get to broaden their science knowledge while making colorful snow, building an artificial snowman, designing their own thermometer, creating bouncing snowballs, and much more!

STEAM Project-Based Learning

Students can stay indoors and out of the cold, while they learn useful chemistry skills to help expand their knowledge beyond this fun winter course. By performing these fun chemistry experiments students can apply what they learned into their overall STEAM education!

Along with the STEAM kit, each student will also receive an amazing winter workbook filled with trivia, fun facts, coloring pages, amazing pictures, and much more!

The course project kit will be delivered to each student. Each kit includes the materials needed in class to complete exciting projects.

Exciting projects students will be able to do include:

Lesson Overview

Over the course of four lessons, students will explore varying aspects of weather science, including how snow forms, what makes snowflakes unique and why we sometimes have hail.

Lesson 1

Time to come in from the cold and jump into an exciting winter STEAM adventure! In lesson 1, students will learn about different types of winter weather. Then students will test out the temperature by making their own thermometer. To finish off the lesson, students will get to make their own fake snow in a variety of colors.

Lesson 2

Not cold enough yet? That is okay! Now, students will dive into the science of snowflakes. Did you know that every snowflake is unique? Students will discuss why this is the case, and then they will make their very own snowflake. To wrap up the lesson, students also get to make their very own snow globe too!

Lesson 3

Winter isn’t going anywhere! In lesson 3, students learn some cool facts about the season. Then, students explore crystallization when they make ice crystals form on a Christmas tree. Of course, it wouldn’t be winter without a snowman! So students will also get to make their own snowman scene using chemistry in this lesson.

Lesson 4

Have you ever been in a snowball fight? Well, in our last installment of our winter course, students will perfect their snowball making skills when they learn how to make bouncing snowballs. Woah! Then, students will finish up the course by learning about hail and making their own colorful ice balls.
