Global Step Academy is now accepting applications for our 2020 Online Summer Camp! Introduce your child to a world of possibilities and achieve experiences to help create a future as a global citizen. Aimed for learners from ages 6 to 12 years old, the Online Summer Camp is geared to create new and safe experiences for your child to learn and develop their outlook on the world, and to begin getting involved in our global community.


The camp is split for Beginner and Intermediate learners, therefore allowing all students to equally participate, communicate, and create friendships, goals, and share opinions with children their age and level. Our Online Summer Camp schedule consists of 4 hours per day over 5 days, creating a safe space for your child to learn and enjoy Summer Camp, as well as additional free English learning resources for you and your child to enjoy every day. Students that are accepted into the Online Summer Camp will also receive a GSA summer camp package.


The camp is focused on activities involving STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics), which allows students to engage in exercises that challenge their creativity, problem-solving skills, and analytical and critical thinking. The core focus of our Online Summer Camp is for students to learn and experience ways to become a global citizen and to expand their aspirations to be a part of the global community. Because our Online Summer Camp will only be conducted in English, your child will be immersed in constant exposure, and learn how to incorporate creativity into their daily lives, all while building important English skills.

※Please note that placement of specific students will vary depending on age and level, therefore, placement will be flexible. Groups will be decided by GSA upon student's English exposure hours, Division, and age.

The online summer camp costs ¥31,600 + tax including the Online Summer Camp kit.

Camp Lesson Details

Students will be practicing how to include critical thinking and gathering data through sports and physical activity. By learning how to create statistics and research in sports, students will develop stronger observational and analytical skills, experiment with what they learn from science, engineering, and math into physical activity, and practice developing theories to create solutions for better results.

Camp Lesson Example: Animal Walk

With this activity, students will recreate various animal walks to determine how fast or slow they can reach one side of the room to the other. Students will then gather together to discuss about their findings to see whether students had different or similar findings, and from their research, determine which animals will be fast or slow.


The camp will involve an array of subjects within Science. Students will be engaging with subjects such as physics, biology, astronomy, life sciences, zoology, oceanology, and others. Through hands-on experiments, practicing trial and error, and forming opinions based on observation, students will be able to form overall key life skills, better organization, focus, and awareness of how things around them work.

Camp Lesson Example: Flying Into Space

Students will be able to practice determining how much force they will need to send their mini rockets to space and reach specific planets. By using mini catapults, students will be able to record their findings for whether they need to add more weight to their mini rocket, create smaller or bigger wings, and how high or low they need to launch their mini rocket.


As our camp will operate fully online, students will be experiencing the modern way of education and communication by using online tools and becoming accustomed to using modern-day technology for everyday use. Students will also learn about the basics of how technology works and will learn basic functions that are used in everyday machinery.


Camp Lesson Example: Create Your Own Coding Sequence

Students will be able to create their own 'coding' sequence by choosing various instructions written on the GSA worksheet to cut and paste into a working coding sequence. Each student will then take turns reading out loud their coding sequence to the other students to re-enact the coding sequence.



Learning basic Engineering will have students apply their knowledge of Mathematics and Science together to greatly enhance their understanding of each subject. As Engineering activities are based on real-world technologies and problems, students will see how Mathematics and Science affect everyday life.


Camp Lesson Example: Balance Scales

Students will build a working balance scale and write theories of what they think will happen during the experiments. We will go through a variety of experiments including whether different liquids and solid objects weigh more than another, and students will record their findings.


Students will practice creating engaging Art projects over the camp schedule. Art allows for students to develop motor skills, language and social skills, make decisions and take risks, and inventiveness.

Camp Lesson Example: 3D Geometric Shapes

Students will learn how to create 3D geometric shapes out of origami in this lesson. They will explore the difference between each shapes to strengthen their spatial awareness, understanding on abstraction, and basic geometry.


Our Mathematics lessons cover basic math that is often used in daily life and that students will be able to utilize their learned skills as they grow older and into adulthood.

Camp Lesson Example: Heart Rate Math

Students will gather their own data using their own heart beat and record their heart rate after every cardio exercise. Once they complete gathering their data, all students will discuss which exercises had increased their heart rate, which were the lowest, and learn how to total averages of their overall heart rate.


Students will travel throughout the world by visiting different countries and continents to learn about various cultures, people, and history.

Camp Lesson Example: Discover North and South America

Students will participate in a field trip to various areas around North and South America, and meet historical figures, observe ancient artifacts, and record their own research about famous areas within these continents.
